KSEPS News
New! April 19, 2012 -- Midwest Ophthalmologists First to Receive Quality and Resource Use Reports. Ophthalmologists in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska are the first to receive Medicare Quality and Resource Use Reports, which contain information on the cost and quality of care provided. The reports, based on 2010 Medicare claims data and 2010 Physician Quality Reporting System participation, are for educational purposes only at this time, but they may have bearing on future physician payments. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is seeking feedback from the physician community to define cost and quality measures that will be used to adjust physician payments beginning in 2015. Physicians from the four states can access their confidential reports through the region’s Medicare carrier. The Academy is gathering member feedback on the reports in order to prepare recommendations to CMS. Feedback and questions should be directed to AAO staffer Kelsey Kurth at kkurth@aaodc.org or 202-737-6662.
January 2012 --KSEPS member and freshman State Rep. Susan Mosier, R-Manhattan, has been hired as Director of Medicaid Services for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, KDHE Secretary Robert Moser said this week. Mosier will resign her House seat soon, which she has occupied for a year. Her KDHE job starts March 1.
Also, Moser today appointed Kari Bruffett, who has been with KDHE for a time, as director of the Division of Health Care Finance (DHCF) which includes managing the state employee health plan.
"With Kari and Susan at the helm of their respective offices and programs in DHCF, I am confident the health of Kansans will improve through effective purchasing and administration of health care in this state. They own a great sum of experience and commitment to high quality health care services for Kansans," said Moser.
